James Matson (retired) was Chief Legal Counsel for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) for 28 years, working on many issues including food safety and security, consumer protection and business practices, agriculture and the environment, non-point pollution, land use, disease control and the food supply chain. Before serving as Chief Counsel, he served as Assistant Counsel for 8 years. He has degrees in economics and law. In retirement, he has authored papers and helped lead volunteer projects related to agriculture and the environment, including the Wisconsin Food, Land and Water Project.
