Karen Mesmer
Karen Mesmer taught science in middle and high school classrooms for 33 years in both northwest Alaska and Baraboo, Wisconsin. She received an MS and PhD in Curriculum and Instruction-Science Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since retirement, she has been a science education consultant in sixty school districts across the country, works for a curriculum company, assists the National Science Teachers Association in many projects, and participated in alignment studies for state science tests in 15 states. She has received many teaching awards and is the Past President of the National Middle Level Science Teacher Association. She volunteers as the co-chair of WGF’s Environmental Education Work Group.
