WGF Sponsors Two Deer Dumpsters for 2024
Wisconsin's Green Fire, October 15, 2024
Wisconsin’s Green Fire is sponsoring two deer dumpsters for 2024.
Annually since 2021, WGF has sponsored two deer dumpsters to aid efforts at slowing the spread of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in Wisconsin’s deer herd. WGF’s Wildlife Work Group chair and Science Council member, Tom Hauge, led WGF’s efforts to sponsor these dumpsters. These dumpsters are part of the Adopt-a-Dumpster Program run by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR).
Hunters are encouraged to use the dumpsters to dispose of deer carcass waste to reduce the risk of spreading CWD. The dumpsters will be deployed on October 21, 2024.
You can help us continue doing this kind of work to support science-based wildlife management by donating to WGF here.

Make sure to read WGF’s July 2021 Opportunities Now report: Meeting Wisconsin’s Deer Conservation Challenges. This paper advocates for a revision of Wisconsin’s 2010 CWD Response Plan, prioritizing state policies that reduce disease prevalence, slow disease spread and rapidly respond to new detections. WGF continues to advocate for policy and on-the-ground efforts to protect Wisconsin’s treasured deer herd.
