WGF Asks Gov. Evers to Veto SB 312
WI Green Fire, February 26, 2024
On February 26, 2024, Wisconsin’s Green Fire (WGF) sent a letter to Governor Tony Evers, asking him to veto Senate Bill 312 (SB 312). For months, leaders from WGF worked with the authors of this bill in attempts to make it beneficial for Wisconsinites who have been harmed by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in their drinking water. Unfortunately, those efforts failed.
Alongside many other environmental groups, WGF opposed the final version of SB 312. We opposed it because of provisions that would limit the Department of Natural Resources’ ability to hold responsible parties accountable for hazardous spills and contamination, provisions that became a “poison pill” for this bill.
We are urging Gov. Evers to veto SB 312, and that the Joint Finance Committee release the $125 Million in the PFAS Trust Fund so that Wisconsin communities can use those funds to protect and clean up their drinking water.
